Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge 2019

Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge 2019

Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge draws all ages to discover Central Wisconsin outdoors.

Racers from eight states worked on teams as they paddled, biked, and trekked the beautiful rivers, trails, parks, and roads in Central Wisconsin at the fifth annual Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge. The event brought together over 30 sponsors and 42 volunteers to raise over $10,000 for student scholarships at UW-Stevens Point Wausau Campus.

Adventure racers use a map and compass to complete an unmarked course revealed the day of the race, often discovering hidden gems off the beaten path.  This year’s race included Eau Claire River paddling, singletrack at the new Ringle trails, and trekking various Ice Age Segments. Wausau native Jason Myers marveled, “I’ve been to Eau Claire Dells dozens of times, but I experienced the park in a completely new way through Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge.”

The Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge promotes the awesome outdoor amenities in Central Wisconsin to all ages – this year 11 families finished the course, with racers ranging from 8 to 70 years old.  Nine-year-old Nora Martinez completed her first adventure race with her twin brother and dad and proudly exclaimed "Great!" when asked how the race was just moments after crossing the finish line.

Each year, racers are encouraged to not only take in the beauty of the great outdoors, but leave the roadways, parks, and trails better by picking up trash.  This year, racers stopped, collected, and disposed of over 550 pieces of trash.

The Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge is held every Memorial Day weekend, with the exact location changing every year.  Plans are already in the works for the 2020 race, with the details of the race course remaining a secret until race day.
