Meet Megan

Traveling from florida for her first adventure race and rekindling a 20-year romance

My last 5k which is the the extent of my racing experiences.

My name is Megan LaDue and this will be my very first adventure race. Twenty years ago I was in college math class when my eyes locked with a guy named Douglas Henke. That was it. That’s all it took and I was smitten. He was a Navy Veteran and I fell for him. In the end, timing then just wasn’t right for us and we went our separate ways.

After dating Doug in college I joined the United States Army. Where of course we ran a lot. We hiked, we navigated, we ran obstacle courses and I loved it. It was challenging and exciting and pushed me to places I didn’t even know I could go especially being afraid of heights.

Fast forward to the present after four kids, a divorce, and somewhat forgetting who that girl was, Doug and I have reconnected. I live in Florida and he lives in Minnesota. I run at home and some of my friends and I will occasionally run some 5k’s. I have never done a race like this. I am flying from Florida to join Doug’s team to participate in the Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge. He asked me and of course I said yes!! Now at 40, I am so excited to be doing this race.

I lost a lot of my confidence I used to have and I find running at home for myself helps to keep me grounded.

Doug and I just saw each other for the first time in 20 years and there he asked me to do this race.

Douglas has inspired me by how much he loves these races. When hearing him talk about the preparation, the actual race itself, and how good he feels after they complete one I began to start thinking this is something I could see myself doing with him. I am very excited to see if I can push myself with our team to complete the race. I lost a lot of my confidence I used to have and I find running at home for myself helps to keep me grounded. This will definitely challenge me and I want to be able to say we did it! I also love the fact that this is a team effort!! Coming from the military I love this part!! I can’t wait to participate in this challenge!
