Classes and rules

Whitewater Classes

Each person in team events must register (may register separately).

  • Short Kayak 8’0” or less

  • Long Kayak longer than 8’0”

  • Duo Kayak (two person kayak)

  • Race Kayak (Fiberglass or Carbon)

  • Single Canoe

  • Single Race Canoe (Fiberglass or Carbon)

  • Twin Canoe

  • Twin Race Canoe (Fiberglass or carbon)

  • Raft

  • Ducky single (1 person inflatable)

  • Ducky twin (2 person inflatable)

  • Boogie Board

Whitewater Rules

  • Awards to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each class - each class must have 3 participants for the event class to take place. - or Classes with 3 or fewer boats will have a first place finisher award only. Classes with 4 to 6 boats will have first and second place finishers receiving awards. Classes with more than 6 boats will have first, second, and third place finishers receiving awards.

  • Having an “out of boat” experience does not disqualify your run as long as you get back in and finish the course with all of your gear.

  • A downstream gate must be made while going downstream and an upstream must be passed through while going upstream. There will be no penalty for hitting a gate pole(s). Missing a gate or running a gate in the wrong direction will result in a disqualification (DQ) for that run.

  • All boats (except ducky) must be designed for whitewater and have appropriate float bags for each boat.

  • Paddlers need to wear the appropriate PFD/life jacket and helmet. Safety is the decision maker. The Chief Official will have the final say.

Flatwater Classes

Long course (4 laps, 16 miles)   

  • Surfski/unlimited kayak men      

  • Surfski/unlimited kayak women 

  • Surfski/unlimited kayak double   

  • Pro canoe C-1 men                        

  • Pro canoe C-1 women                   

  • Pro canoe C-2 men                     

  • Pro canoe C-2 women               

  • Pro canoe C-2 mixed                  

  • OC- 1 men

Short course (1 lap, 4 miles)     

  • Rec class kayak under 18’ 

  • Rec class canoe under 17’

  • Rec SUP under 14’  

     

Flatwater Rules

  • Classes with 3 or fewer boats will have a first place finisher award only. Classes with 4 to 6 boats will have first and second place finishers receiving awards. Classes with more than 6 boats will have first, second, and third place finishers receiving awards.

  • Boats must have a coast guard approved PFD on board.  May be required to wear if water conditions are threatening.

  • All canoe classes must use a single blade paddle.

  • Anyone paddling solo in the event must be at least 18 years of age or at least 10 years of age if part of a tandem team accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. If you want to request that your child paddles tandem with you and is under the age of 10, please contact us.
