I’ve never done a Paddle race before, what should I expect?

First congratulations for getting your “feet wet”! The Iron Paddle will have something for all ability levels. You will see some of the nation’s best paddlers and others like you that have never done anything like this and everything inbetween.

Can I practice the race course?

Absolutely! Both the whitewater and flatwater courses will be open for practice on 6/11/20.

I’M new to skiing, can I still participate?

Yes. You can team up with a skier and participate as a relay. If you’re having trouble finding a teammate, put a shout out on our Facebook page or let us know.

You can also learn to ski at the Wausau Nordic Ski Club's free adult lessons held each Tuesday evening in January at Nine Mile Forest. More information at Wausau Nordic Ski Club website. These lessons are open to first timers and beginners if you are looking to improve your technique. Ski equipment is also provided for free at the lessons. If you don’t have ski equipment for the race, you may rent equipment on the day of the race at on site.

I Don’t have a boat, can I still participate?

Yes. You can borrow a friend’s, rent one from Dive Point, use an inflatable, or even build you own!

What if I tip over my boat?

We will have numerous certified volunteers on the course to help you.

Where can I park with my boat?

You may park in one of several areas during the event.

What can my family do while I’m racing?

The whitewater and start/finish of the flatwater events will be very spectator friendly. The whitewater course has seating but bring a blanket or lawn chair for the flatwater events.
